Knight cat, cat knight, kitten knight, knight kitten — all the same meme. Where each name comes from and which to use.
Published 2026-10-12.
You've seen the clip: a tiny kitten in silver armor, sword taller than itself, standing in a storm. Now you want to find it, make one, or tag yours. And the internet can't agree on what to call it.

Knight cat. Cat knight. Kitten knight. Knight kitten. The cat with a sword. They all point to the same thing. Here's how each name came about and which one makes sense for what you're doing.

## The short answer

There's no official name. The character was made by the AI creator @sickmanai, who reportedly calls it "Kitty" — not any of the names people search for. Everything else was invented by viewers.

- **Knight cat** — most common in English, especially when people search for the AI video or a generator.
- **Cat knight** — just as natural in English; common in captions and comments.
- **Kitten knight / knight kitten** — used by people who want to stress that it's a *kitten*, which it is. Often used for the meme itself ("the kitten knight meme").
- **Kitten with a sword / cat in knight armor** — descriptive phrases, used when people don't know there's a name.
- **Котенок с мечом / котенок в доспехах** — Russian for "kitten with a sword" and "kitten in armor", which is what it's called in the Russian-speaking internet.

All are correct. None is more official than another.

## Why are there so many names?

Because the meme came first and the name came later. When a clip spreads as a reaction image, people describe it in their own words. Nobody stopped to agree on a label.

English also makes it easy. "Knight cat" and "cat knight" are both normal: one reads as "a cat who is a knight", the other as "a knight who is a cat". Compare "robot dog" and "dog robot". Both work. People pick whichever sounds better to them.

### Knight cat

This phrasing puts "knight" first, as a description, the way you'd say "pirate cat" or "space cat". It's the version that turns up most when people search for tools to make their own, as in "knight cat AI" or "knight cat AI video generator". It's also why we called this site Knight Cat AI.

### Cat knight

This one reads like a job title: a knight, who happens to be a cat. It's popular in comments and captions, and in fantasy art generally — "cat knight" was a fairly common fantasy art phrase before this meme existed, so some search results will show older drawings and games, not the viral clip.

### Kitten knight and knight kitten

This is the most accurate description. The original character is a kitten, not a grown cat, and much of the meme's charm comes from that: a small, soft, very young creature standing its ground. "Kitten knight meme" is a common way people refer to the trend itself, and some generator sites use "Knight Kitten" as a brand.

### Kitten with a sword

The literal description, and the direct translation of the Russian name. If you've seen the meme on Russian-language social media or in reposts from there, this is probably how it was introduced to you.

## Does it matter which one you use?

For talking to friends? Not at all.

For being found, a little. If you're posting your own version, different people search different words. Covering a few of them in your caption and hashtags helps. Something like:

> my cat when the vet says "just a quick check" 🗡️ #knightcat #catknight #kittenknight

You don't need all five variations. Two or three is plenty and looks less spammy.

If you're searching for a tool to make one, "knight cat AI" or "kitten knight AI" will get you there. For the original clips, "kitten knight meme" or the creator's handle works best.

## What about dogs? "Knight dog"?

People make the same video with dogs, and naming gets even looser: "knight dog", "dog knight", "puppy knight". These are just spin-offs. Most people still tag them #knightcat because that's where the audience is, which is a bit funny but works. On this site, choose Cat or Dog before you generate. Dog stills add “furry paws, no fingers”.

## What about the version with the giant?

The second wave of the meme, where the camera pulls back to reveal a huge figure next to the tiny knight, has its own names. It started with the "Remember your gym bro" clip from @derek.mercer.2006 and @sickmanai in late September, so you'll see "gym bro knight", "tiny knight and giant", or "giant guardian". Knight Cat AI does not sell that as a template. The two templates are **Pet knight** (one pet photo) and **You & your pet** (your photo first, then the pet).

## Common misspellings

People also type "night cat" (no K), "knite cat" and "kitty knight". If you're writing about it, use the standard spelling — "knight" — but don't be surprised to see the others in comments.

## So which do we use?

On this site we use **knight cat** as the main term, because it's what most people type when they want to make one. We use **kitten knight** when we're talking about the original meme, because that's what it is. And we use **cat knight** where it reads more naturally in a sentence.
